mobile phone chargers - too many and all different
Scouring the latest news from the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, I thought as I read the news that mobile phone makers and network operators are backing plans to create a universal phone charger, that maybe they do listen to the customer after all. Can you believe it there are more than 30 different kinds of charger in use – and that’s just across the 27-nation European Union alone. As I read more about the announcement, it turns out the introduction of the universal charger is not driven by any sense of customer responsiveness but part of the plans by the mobile phone industry plans improve its previously patchy environmental record! Nevertheless, whatever drove the innovation; it’s welcome because it is so badly overdue. Now what we want is not only for it to happen – fast – but for laptop manufacturers to similarly work together in the consumers interests.
One can only hope!

No, let's not just hope, let's try to ensure that they do follow through with their word. For the most part, each household may have more than just one mobile phone in use. For each to have their own charger is impractical and energy-consuming.
